Oahu, the most populated of the Hawaiian Islands, is home to Honolulu, the state capital, Pearl Harbor, and famed Waikiki Beach.
Most of Oahu tourist attractions are condensed in a relatively small area near Honolulu and in the famed Waikiki district.
At Waikiki visitors can find world-class shopping, active nightlife, thousands of hotels and resorts and the convenience of having everything, including a long white sand beach, within walking distance.
The USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor is another must visit, commemorating the events of December 7th 1941, when the Japanese made a surprise attack on the home base of the US Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor.
The rest of Oahu, outside of Honolulu, is much less developed and is still able to maintain its rural charm with rugged landscape and pristine secluded beaches.
