Kauai, nicknamed 'The Garden Island' is one of the wettest places on earth with almost daily rainfall and a climate that supports extremely lush scenery.
Being the least developed of the four major Hawaiian Islands, Kauai is a celebration of nature at its grandest form. Local laws that prohibit building anything on Kauai that is taller than a coconut tree ensure that whatever is built on the island blends into its natural setting.
Resort development on Kauai is fairly limited in size but not in quality. Some of the most luxuries resort destinations in Hawaii can be found on the island of Kauai. Those are clustered in Hanalei and Princeville on the north shore and in Lihue, Kapaa, Poipu Koloa and the Wailua area on the eastern side of the island.
Though the resorts offer excellent accommodations, superb golf courses and numerous recreational activities, the main attraction in Kauai is first and foremost its natural beauty. It has the only navigable river in Hawaii and more streams and waterfalls than any of the other islands.
